If you’ve ever been browsing on a Mac and clicked a mailto: link, you may have discovered that it often tends to default to the Mail app. If you want to use Gmail (or another email service) you need to make a few changes. To be clear, the problem isn’t with opening links in another email. Since email is a critical avenue for communication, Apple requires that email apps must meet specific functional criteria aimed at ensuring private and accurate access for users. Apps signal their intent to be used as a default mail app by using the com.apple.developer.mail-client managed entitlement. Request permission to use this entitlement by emailing default-mail-app-requests@apple.com. Speaking of email, you can change your default email app with ease on your Mac. To do so, open Apple’s Mail app. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Mail Preferences.

Default apps are really cool. They are native, work right from the box and are extremely reliable for basic tasks. Yet, sometimes they lack some necessary features and lag behind most of the competitors. That’s when you might want to change your default email client.

You can do that literally in seconds.

First, open the default Mail app (sorry for that) and click on Mail > Preferences in the upper menu. You’ll only need to do this once, to set default email mac.

Once there, switch to the ‘General’ tab and click on ‘Default Email Reader’. Now you can choose the app you would like to be the default one for managing emails.

If there’s no such option in the dropdown, you can select any app from the Applications folder. To do so, click on ‘Select’ and pick your email champion.

That’s it. Now you are using the email client that is the best for managing your inbox and the most customized to your needs.

Open Mail. Select Preferences from the Mail Menu. Click on the Accounts button in the toollbar. You should see your mail account listed in the sidebar of the display. Click on it to select it then click on the Delete [-] button at the bottom of the list. Navigate in the Finder to the /Home/Library/ folder and look for the Mail folder in the window. Select the folder, CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the selection, and select Move to Trash from the context menu. Next navigate to the Preferences folder. Double-click on the folder to open a Finder window. Locate the entries named com.apple.mail..plist. Select them and drag them to the Trash.

Four Ways to Make the Home/Library Folder Visible


A. This method will make the folder visible permanently. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities' folder and paste the following red colored command line at the command prompt: chflags nohidden ~/Library then press RETURN.

B. Click on the Desktop, press the Option (⌥) key, select Library from the Finder's Go menu.

C. Select Go To Folder from the Finder's Go menu. Paste the following in the path field: ~/Library and click on the Go button.

D. In Sierra activate the Finder, press COMMAND-J, set Finder display to Icon view if it is in some other view mode, select your Home folder from the sidebar, check the box labeled, 'Show Library Folder.
